Quelqu&rsquo;un pose une machine dans la pi\u00e8ce et, soudain, il ne s&rsquo;agit plus seulement de son. Il s&rsquo;agit de statut. De r\u00f4les. De savoir qui a, au fond, le droit de s&rsquo;appeler &laquo; Music Producer &raquo;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Avec la musique IA, c&rsquo;est exactement ce qui se passe de nouveau.<\/p>\n<p>Avant de parler du d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 90, retour rapide dans les ann\u00e9es 80. Adolescent, j&rsquo;ai \u00e9t\u00e9 socialis\u00e9 par la pop, les samplers et l&rsquo;enregistrement. Il y avait le Fairlight CMI. Cher, rare, visible. Un instrument pr\u00e9sent dans les studios o\u00f9 se rencontraient argent, ambition et futur de la pop. Poss\u00e9der une &laquo; Workstation &raquo; comme celle-l\u00e0 ne voulait pas simplement dire avoir plus de sons. Sound- und Drumland Berlin, Pariser Strasse 9, Wilmersdorf. N&rsquo;\u00e9tait-ce pas Reinhold Heil, propri\u00e9taire d&rsquo;un Fairlight, qui entrait par la porte? Et presque sans m&rsquo;en rendre compte, j&rsquo;avais moi-m\u00eame plusieurs samplers dans ma chambre. Pas seulement le Casio SK-1 du magasin de jouets, mais les premiers AKAIs, Rolands et samplers KORG. C&rsquo;\u00e9taient des passages vers une autre logique musicale.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trevor Horn est un bon rep\u00e8re pour cette p\u00e9riode. Ses productions montrent \u00e0 quel point la pop des ann\u00e9es 80 venait d\u00e9j\u00e0 de d\u00e9cisions de studio et d&rsquo;une pens\u00e9e du sampling. Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Grace Jones, <em>Slave to the Rhythm<\/em>. Ce n&rsquo;\u00e9tait pas \u00e9criture plus enregistrement. La pop a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi espace, d\u00e9cision et studio.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Le point est simple: m\u00eame avant l&rsquo;IA, la pop n&rsquo;a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 la pure interpr\u00e9tation d&rsquo;une chanson. La pop a toujours aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;histoire de gens qui utilisaient de nouveaux outils d&rsquo;une mani\u00e8re qui, au d\u00e9but, irritait les autres.<\/p>\n<p>Puis les DJs sont arriv\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 90, l&rsquo;espace s&rsquo;est d\u00e9plac\u00e9 de nouveau. Cubase \u00e9tait l\u00e0, les samplers \u00e9taient l\u00e0, les enregistreurs DAT se trouvaient dans les project studios et sur des tables \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de machines qui, pour l&rsquo;ancienne g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, sentaient encore le futur. Pro Tools arrivait, les s\u00e9quenceurs devenaient normaux. La musique n&rsquo;avait plus besoin de na\u00eetre seulement dans la logique du groupe ou du musicien de studio.<\/p>\n<p>Et n&rsquo;oublions pas Dr. Gerhard Lengeling. D\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 80, il a construit pour le Commodore C64 le meilleur logiciel MIDI qui existait, puis il a fond\u00e9 Emagic et invent\u00e9 Logic. Son ancienne soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est toujours \u00e0 Rellingen pr\u00e8s de Hambourg, appartient \u00e0 Apple depuis le d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000 et continue d&rsquo;y d\u00e9velopper Logic Pro et GarageBand. Pr\u00e9sent sur presque chaque Mac et chaque iPad. De la pop, \u00e9crite dans une banlieue de Hambourg.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;enregistreur DAT fonctionne comme image parce qu&rsquo;il ne sonne pas mythique. Pas un synth\u00e9tiseur vintage dor\u00e9 que l&rsquo;on romantise aujourd&rsquo;hui. Plut\u00f4t cet objet de transition dur et pratique: num\u00e9rique, maniable, assez s\u00e9rieux pour de vrais master tapes que je remettais avec une immense fiert\u00e9 \u00e0 Sony Music ou Polydor. Et en m\u00eame temps, un objet quotidien tr\u00e8s peu spectaculaire, un magn\u00e9tophone pour musiciens. Ce genre d&rsquo;appareil change souvent plus de choses que le r\u00e9cit ult\u00e9rieur ne l&rsquo;avoue. Pas parce qu&rsquo;il fait de la musique tout seul, mais parce qu&rsquo;il raccourcit les chemins.<\/p>\n<p>Le DJ n&rsquo;avait pas besoin d&rsquo;\u00eatre musicien. Il s&rsquo;est simplement invent\u00e9 comme sa propre cat\u00e9gorie, quelque part encore plus cool que musicien. L&rsquo;harmonie? Le DJ n&rsquo;en avait pas besoin. Ma\u00eetriser la technique de studio et les claviers? Son copain Achim faisait \u00e7a, lui qui au d\u00e9but ne savait pas vraiment ce qu&rsquo;\u00e9tait une bonne musique et qui est devenu plus tard un ghost producer recherch\u00e9 pour tous les labels dance cool.<\/p>\n<p>Le DJ \u00e9tait le nouveau dieu de la pop: il savait ce qui faisait vraiment bouger les gens, quelle hook restait, quelle chanson transformait la pi\u00e8ce en temple, quel groove poussait les beaux corps sur la piste. Ce n&rsquo;\u00e9tait pas un remplacement des musiciens. C&rsquo;\u00e9tait une nouvelle cat\u00e9gorie, et elle existe encore.<\/p>\n<p>C&rsquo;est exactement l\u00e0 que la musique IA devient int\u00e9ressante.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;IA donne de nouveau \u00e0 des gens acc\u00e8s \u00e0 une puissance de production qu&rsquo;ils n&rsquo;avaient pas auparavant. Un go\u00fbt fort, une image claire, un sens de la chanson et de la culture pop peuvent soudain se traduire en mati\u00e8re beaucoup plus vite. Il devient plus important.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Un r\u00e9sultat IA peut para\u00eetre \u00e9norme au premier instant. Voix, performance, gros mix, arrangement plausible.<\/p>\n<p>Mais le moment DJ de la musique IA n&rsquo;est pas un passe-droit. C&rsquo;est maintenant que l&rsquo;on voit qui sait \u00e9couter. Et s&rsquo;il y aura quelqu&rsquo;un qui, comme &laquo; Prompt DJ &raquo;, fera le tour du monde en r\u00e9coltant hits, disques d&rsquo;or et Grammys, comme David Guetta ces 20 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un monde o\u00f9 la mati\u00e8re devient bon march\u00e9, le jugement devient plus cher. Tr\u00e8s concr\u00e8tement: quelle version reste? Quelle hook est trop lisse? Quelles voix crient &laquo; IA &raquo;? Quel kick ne fonctionne qu&rsquo;en solo? O\u00f9 faut-il r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer au lieu de mixer, o\u00f9 faut-il couper, r\u00e9duire, remplacer?<\/p>\n<p><strong>C&rsquo;est le regard pratique.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;ancien m\u00e9tier du mix ne s&rsquo;est pas dissous parce que la source est nouvelle. Le low end reste le low end. Les espaces restent les espaces. La dynamique reste la dynamique. Une voix doit avoir un r\u00f4le cr\u00e9dible dans le morceau. Un arrangement doit guider l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. Un mix doit tenir en dehors de la fen\u00eatre de prompt.<\/p>\n<p>La diff\u00e9rence, c&rsquo;est que les erreurs sont aujourd&rsquo;hui emball\u00e9es autrement. Avant, une mauvaise d\u00e9mo sonnait souvent tout de suite comme une mauvaise d\u00e9mo. Aujourd&rsquo;hui, un r\u00e9sultat IA faible peut para\u00eetre tr\u00e8s fini au premier regard. Cela le rend plus dangereux, pas meilleur.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;avantage n&rsquo;est pas dans l&rsquo;outil.
